Dog Bites

In Massachusetts, a victim of a dog bite is entitled to compensation irrespective of whether the dog owner is at fault. This is known as “strict liability.” This means the victim does not need to prove the dog owner was negligent in the circumstances surrounding the bite. This makes sense as a public policy. Dogs are animals and as such their behavior can be unpredictable. A “strict liability” standard is attached so that dog owners take extra precaution to ensure their dog does not bite (such as leashes and dog muzzles). If you are the victim of a dog bite, no matter how small or insignificant, you should seek medical attention immediately. Dog bites can cause serious medical problems in a short time. After medical attention, you should seek the counsel of an attorney to protect your rights to full recovery. Please contact our office for a free consultation on your rights to full recovery.
